Pilates is a system of monotonous exercises performed on a yoga mat to endorse strength, stability, and flexibility. It change the body through muscular effort that originates in the main.

The method encourages awareness of the body to care for everyday movements that are efficient and graceful. As such, Pilates has been popular with dancers but appeals to a broader audience. Joseph Pilates developed the Pilates Method during the 1920s.

Pilates Principles

There are 4 Pilates principles.3 They review the philosophy of the Pilates method and are vital to getting the most out of each exercise.

  1. Concentration – By concentrating on each exercise with your full attention, you will get the maximum results from each movement.
  2. Control: Full muscle control requires conscious and cautious movement and is stressed in every Pilates exercise.
  3. Breathing: Joseph Pilates advocated using the lungs to pump air in and out of the body forcefully. Most Pilates exercises coordinate with breathing, as breathing is integral to the process.
  4. Flow: Pilates exercises are not to be stiff. Fluidity, grace, and ease are helpful in every movement. The idea is that the energy of an activity performed by the central “powerhouse” connects each body part to move in a single fluid motion.
